Camp Primitively

Whenever the Texas Renaissance Festival comes around  I end up going there once or twice with friends. Last year they camped in the campgrounds and while I hung out with them for a bit there I wasn't able to stay the entire night and camp with them. This year though since I'm able to drive and I have my own car there was nothing stopping me from camping. I've never camped before so even this very basic camping was a bit different for me.

Friday night I met up with my friend Briyi and we drove down to Plantersville. I ended up have to give directions since I knew the area the best out of anyone in the car. Thankfully its not a complicated route. We were one of the last ones to get there out of our group so we quickly pitched out tent (or at least attempted to)
The tent itself wasn't all that complicated to put up but the cold, darkness, and wind complicated things. If one of us didn't keep good hold of the tent it would try to fly away. Eventually though we got it set up and joined the rest around the firepit.

That weekend ended up being the weekend were we actually had cold weather. During the day it hadn't been all that cold so I expected it to just be chilly at night. Nope, it ended up being cold and I just had a thin sweater. To make it even worse I'd forgotten to bring alot of things like extra blankets. I worked late that day and since everyone had been waiting for me to get there so they could leave, I rushed in packing for the weekend. Pillows, blankets, warm jackets were all forgotten. Thankfully Briyi at least brought a few extra blankets. 4 or 5 in the morning we finally fell asleep only to wake up around 9 am for the faire.

We spent the day at the faire and then after the fireworks returned to the campsite. Once again it was freezing and windy. The fire helped somewhat but not enough. I ended up lying down to take a nap. I planned on waking back up in an hour or so but that never happened. I ended up staying asleep until the morning.

Sunday morning we made breakfast over the fire then packed everything up. It was much easier taking the tent down then putting it up.

We all plan on going back to the ren faire for Celtic Christmas and on camping again. This time though I'm definitly bringing a large amount of blankets and warmer clothing just in case.
